Black Series Review Knight of Ren (Vicrul)
Yesterday I purchased the Star Wars Black Series: Knight of Ren figure, which depicts the Knight of Ren identified as Vicrul. The figure overall is great, with only a few small issues. Since I like to end on a positive note, let's start with the Negatives.
Probably my biggest complaint is with the arm joints. One big issue is that the design of the sleeve on the upper arm somewhat constricts movement and prevents the arm from extending all the way, but this is a minor complaint, and frankly I'm glad they were unwilling to sacrifice Screen Accuracy. The Elbow joints are also a little stiff, but thats hardly a major issue.
Far bigger then the elbow is the wrist joints, which have a very small connection point compared to the overall figure. The joints on mine are also a little looser then normal. The right hand is sculpted to hold the gun, although the gun is very loose in his hands, and moves vertically on a hinge, and the left hand is sculpted to hold the sickle. In the films, Vicrul holds the sickle by the handle at the very end, which in this sculpt is very small, meaning that he can't hold it from there. However, if you move the sickle up just a little he holds it fine.
My next comment isn't even necessarily a complaint, just an interesting thing I'd like to point out.
The holster on this figure is weird, and unlike anything I've seen on any other figure. You have to place the blaster in the bottom holster, then lever the top portion of it over the top of the blaster to secure it in place. It's very weird, but again I think they were going for screen accuracy. The skirt on this figure is another thing which constricts movement slightly, but again, screen accuracy is in play.
And now on to the positive. This is a very cool looking figure. The knights of Ren all have kickass designs in the films, and Vicrul is no exception. The figure, while not as posable as some, looks absolutely badass in every pose I've put him in. He also looks great standing next to any Kylo Ren figure, or next to the overall First Order. I really hope we get more Knights of Ren Black Series Figures, as it would be awesome to keep up the set.
Other then the small joint issues I've mentioned, the other joints are fine. The head is on a double ball joint which gives it a lot of posability. The hips are on a ball as well, which makes this characters torso very flexible. As I've mentioned the leg movement is limited by the skirt, but the joints are still super clean and sturdy, while not being sticky.
Overall, Vicrul isn't my absolute favorite figure. But he's still a great addition to my collection, and adds a nice sinister compatriot to the overall First Order
